Who is eligible to play softball for GSA?

Girls residing in Roanoke City and born between January 1, 2008 and September 30, 2020 are eligible to play softball with GSA.

GSA serves the Southwest area of the city. Players from other areas of Roanoke City may also register with GSA, particularly if softball is not offered or a team is not available in their age group through their area’s rec club.

What are the age groups?

Players are assigned to age groups based on their age as of January 1, 2026.

· 8U Coach Pitch (players born 2017-2020)

· 10U Player Pitch (players born 2015-2016)

· 13U (players born 2012-2014)

· 17U (players born 2008-2011)

 

How much does it cost to play?

The registration fee is $75. This fee has not increased in the past three years and is lower than most programs in the surrounding area. We never want cost to be a barrier to participation, so scholarships are available for families who need assistance.

 

I play on a school or travel team. Can I still play on a GSA rec team?

Yes! It is not uncommon for players on school or travel teams to also participate on rec teams. This can allow players to try out new positions (such as pitching) or simply get additional playing time.   

 

How often are practices and games?

Practices generally practice twice a week, beginning in late March. Regular season games start April 20 and run through the first week of June. During the season, teams can expect two to three games per week.

 

What equipment do I need?

Players must provide their own glove and cleats. GSA provides teams with bats, softballs, batting helmets, and uniforms.

Do you need volunteers?

Yes! Our organization relies on volunteers to provide athletic opportunities. We are always looking for coaches, assistant coaches, and scorekeepers – no experience required!
